As Sheriff, Public Safety has always been my top priority. In my tenure, Jackson has seen a marked decrease in violent crime, through a multifaceted approach.

• Created the STRIVE community outreach team to foster trust in the community through engagement and availability.

• Sheriff Schuette personally attends meetings in all Townships throughout the county, to address each communities specific needs.

• Created two additional Detective positions focusing on solving crime.

• Created five new evidence technicians for collecting forensic evidence to solve crime.

• Added four new accident reconstructionist's for thorough and complete investigations into serious auto accidents.

• Created an intelligence unit within the jail to assist with detecting and preventing crime and promote safety.

• Began a K9 program with zero cost to the taxpayer.

• Provides Deputies for security in the court house.

• Re-wrote and modernized all policies and procedures in accordance with best practices and the law.

• Created trust with the community by adding diversity to the Deputy ranks as well as the Command staff.

• Increased mental health and additction services in the jail.

• Created a Corrections Intelligence Team to assist in facility and community safety.

• Created a specialized corrections unit (CERT) to deal with violent inmates in the jail in a humane, safe manner, thereby reducing liability.

• First jail in the state to add a free Nalozone vending machine which has had a positive impact in reducing drug overdoses, saving lives, and reducing first responder costs.
